Our Expert review of the Apple iPad 8th Generation Tablet
How it’s currently spec’d:
The refurb 2020 Apple iPad, or 8th generation as it is also know by, has a larger the previous models 10.2 inch multi touch IPS Retina display capable of 2160 x 1620 264 pixels per inch display, 128GB storage, 3GB RAM and support for the latest iPadOS. As well as these additional refinements, you’ll still find Touch ID in the Home button, WiFi, Cellular 4G, Bluetooth, front and rear cameras and support for the 1st gen Apple Pencil.
Where we think it excels:
We think Apples 8th gen iPad is a proper bridge between the standard iPad and the Pro versions. It has a larger screen than the 9.7” iPads before it and with slightly more power underneath the hood. You can still use the 1st generation Apple Pencil with it so if you’re upgrading from an older model there isn’t any need to buy new peripherals and as always the iPad is super easy to use, even for the tablet novice.
What we think its drawbacks are:
The front facing or ‘FaceTime’ camera is still disappointing 1.2MP so if you want high spec cameras there are far better tablets available.
What we think of the design:
iPads don’t change all that much in appearance and this 8th Gen is much the same as the 6th and 7th generations apart from the larger 10.2” screen. This has added about 30 grams from the 6th gen and around 10 grams from the 7th gen. Touch ID still works really quickly and overall this tablet feels really nice in hand.
Who it’s suitable for:
As with more or less any iPad, the 8th Gen is brilliant for experienced or new to tablet users. We feel students would greatly benefit from the larger screen on this 8th Generation iPad especially when combined with an Apple Pencil.
