I just want to have fun. Something EA has apparently forgotten about.
Do some friggin' research before buying a game.
Madden and the 2k series are sims. You have to know somethign about the game to succeed.
If you want mindless fun get NFL Blitz. If you want something in between, get NFL Fever.

I really don't know what to tell you guys
I have made some free agent moves with my 15 mil in cap room to shore up some of the weak areas on both lines. I got a 3rd receiver(Westbrook), and a TE(Walls), signed McGahee. Should give me enough options on offense.
I hit the receivers as they break.. not as they are already breaking.
I can't stop a 3rd and long to save my life.
I can't stop 25% of the kick/punt returns.
I give up.

And to the people who suggested messing with the difficulty level. I totally dominate on Rookie...and cant win on Pro. Even with silders adjusted in my favor.

Josh Hinkle is right. NFL 2K3, 2K4, etc. and Madden football games are simulation games. You really have to know a lot about football and spend a lot of time learning the video game before you can succeed.
NFL Blitz almost isn't a football game - it's very loosely based on football. NFL Fever is a great game for people who want to play football without the hassles of a simulation-type game.

So #51 has Arrington's ratings because Arrington wears #56?

Also, does anyone know the deal with the All-Time teams? Like why do none of the numbered players on the '91 Redskins correspond to the actual Redskins that played on that team? Why are some teams locked?

Perhaps I am better than average at thgis game, but I play on all-pro, no adjusted sliders, and find the game to be fair but challenging. In my current season I am 12-4 as the Eagles, and in the playoffs. Seems pretty realistic to me. I lost to Tampa, Green Bay, 49ers, and Giants.

The locked teams are unlocked by getting their madden cards.
Not sure why the numbers are off.

Funniest thing I've read in months! I'm going to use it next time I beat my friend at NCAA 2003, but I'll use Corso's voice.

Well for one this is a true sim, well sim as you can get as of now, thats what people wanted and thats what they got, every year they get it as real as possible and continue to do so,sounds like this game aint for you,why dont you go play blitz, there are also sliders in the game, you can make the game as easy or as hard as want, maybe you should have tried that,or better yet why not get better at the game sometimes it takes more then 1 and a half games to get good at a game.
Dont get mad at EA for getting your butt kicked,I was sick of beating teams 78-0 and im glad EA made this game tuff, now teams can beat me against the CPU once in a great while, whats fun about going 16-0 every year with a superbowl win,my as well get a gameshark and have that play the game for you.

I noticed that, too. I was going to play the 94 49ers vs the Cowboys, and all the numbers were off. I was like "So number 4 is supposed to be Steve Young?"
It made me mad that they wouldn't at least get the numbers right. Plus, since some of the hidden cards need the GBA (for the GC version) to unlock them, I was upset by that as well. Although I seem to be the only GC owner without a GBA, lol.

They can't get the numbers right (or the appearances either, for that matter). They have a contract with the NFLPA (or whatever the players' association is called), but this doesn't include retired players. So if they were to put retired players with their actual numbers in there, they would probably have to give them some money.
Obviously, it's ok in some cases (looking at the retired players available as Madden Cards in the 2003 edition), but for the most part, they avoid it.
There are sites that have lists taking the players from Madden & giving them their real names. If you want to do it on your own, you can look at the ratings and the physical build of the players. They should give you a good idea...

Wow! Some of you guys can be harsh on someone when they don't like a game. I have to agree with him on some of his points. You guys keep blaming it on the pro level, should play at an easier level. I don't care if I'm on pro or not, those damn fumbles piss me off. I played one game where almost every kick return my guy fumbled the ball. That doesn't happen in a real game on almost every play. There is some stuff I would say is like cheating in the computer's favor. I just can't get the game at a level that works for me. It's either I'm getting blown out or I'm blowing the computer out. That happy middle ground just seems so hard to find. I would agree that this game may not be his cup of tea since Madden and Sega are more of a sim type. Probably would enjoy Fever a lot more, I know I do. Can't wait to get home and pop Fever in tonight after struggling through Madden for the last couple of weeks.

Whatever happened to the Gameday series? I remember there was a period in the late 90s where they surpased Madden as THE best FB game out there. That was for PS. Ever since then if you mention Gameday you're likely to get laughed out of the room.
